Green Day have compared the work on their forthcoming triple album to AC/DC and The Beatles.

The US punks will release ‘Uno’, ‘Dos’ and ‘Tre’ between September 2012 and January 2013 and spoke to Rolling Stone about the bands who have influenced the ambitious plan.

“The last two records were studio albums. This one – we started rehearsing every day, constructing these songs together. It felt like we were all in a room jamming – everyone in the mix, throwing out ideas. If you listen to it, it feels grand. But it also feels like a garage band,” said lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong.

Adding: “We wanted something punchier, more power pop – somewhere between AC/DC and the early Beatles.”

Other bands that Armstrong mentioned that influenced the new record ranged from The Clash to Ian Drury and Tom Tom Club.

‘¡Uno! ¡Dos! ¡Tré!’ will be released in three stages, with the first album ‘¡Uno!’ coming out on September 24. The second LP ‘¡Dos!’ comes out on November 12 and finally, ‘¡Tré!’ will be released on January 14 2013. All the albums are available to pre-order now from the band’s official website
